Steve Furstenfeld conceived the idea of San Juan Marble during 1997. SJMs creator has an industry background that started in the Industrial Arts and focused on Drafting and Metalworking. Steve earned the Best in Nation Award for a senior project, thus earning a college scholarship. Starting in the Stone Trade in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1989, he served as Shop Foreman for Pacific Marble & Granite, the state's largest stone slab, tile and Terrazzo contractor. Here he learned the 'ins and outs' of the business as well as cutting edge CNC Stone Processing Technology. He became capable of directing high-production in order to keep up with over 2 million in gross sales per year. Steve was later hired into a management position with Walker Zanger. Duties included ordering, shipping, receiving, and sales development of slab products. His efforts realized a 45% growth in gross sales in 1 year.
Diversifying his experience yet another time, Steve supervised over 50 employees on one of the largest Residential Stone Projects in the exclusive River Oaks subdivision in Houston, Texas, which lasted nearly three years.
Steve finally decided to let his knowledge work for himself, and opened San Juan Marble Company in Ridgway, Colorado to service the nearby booming Telluride Ski Resort market. Requests started coming in from nearby states after a couple of years so the decision was made that San Juan Marble Company would travel wherever the job was in order to satisfy customers. The rest is history.
